Venus Bay
Secluded seaside village named by George Bass after the planet commonly observed as the morning or evening star. Venus Bay is 6 kilometres from Tarwin Lower and 27 kilometres from Inverloch.
Enjoy 26 kilometers of magnificent, unspoilt sandy surf beaches, via 5 different access points along the bay stretch.
The main family beach (number 1 beach) just above the Caravan Park is patrolled during summer months. Follow directions given by the lifesavers and swim between the flags as the beach opens directly onto Bass Strait which is renowned for strong undertows. Also be aware that other beach locations around Venus Bay are not patrolled and not recommended for poor swimmers.
Venus Bay beaches are also a haven for surfers and surf fishermen with large fish regularly caught from the surf. Fishing competitions are held regularly over the main holiday periods. Call into Rod Bending Fishing in the shopping precinct, the friendly staff will tell you the best spots and what bait the fish are taking.
The Venus Bay boat ramp is located at the end of Fishermen's Jetty Road. Allows access to Anderson Inlet (turn right at the general store then left at roundabout). There is also a concrete ramp near the hotel in Tarwin Lower for a spot of river fishing.
Venus Bay is well serviced with a licensed general store sub newsagency, several restaurants, pizza shop.
Accommodation is plentiful but it is a good idea to book over main holiday periods. Venus Bay Caravan Park owned and operated by Fenna and Jacob is a very clean and tidy family orientated caravan park where you can bring you van, pitch a tent or stay in one of the ultra modern 4 star on-site park units. The park facilities include swimming pool, tennis court, children’s playground – all of this a few minutes to the main beach.
Karen and Ted welcome you to Venus Bay Getaways, a 4 star boutique hotel-style guesthouse for adults only. Featuring unique accommodation with in-house day spa, sauna, hydrotherapy spa, bar and fully licensed restaurant. The ocean is 300 metres from your door.
Wildlife is very prominent throughout the area with many species of native and sea birds to be observed. Kangaroos can be sighted grazing along the sides of the road so be aware and take your time when driving through the various beach areas.
Tarwin Lower 6kms from Venus Bay has a historic hotel opposite the river. Bistro meals are available 7 days a week and it’s a great place to relax and have a beer or wine on the deck overlooking the river. The open fire is very popular in the colder months. Mine hosts: Greg and Elaine welcome you. |
